Epilepsy is a common and chronic neurological disorder affecting millions of people worldwide and is associated with substantial cognitive, behavioral, and physical burdens. Current medical approaches identify a range of contributing factors including genetic mutations, brain injury, infections, and developmental abnormalities, and offer treatments such as anti-seizure medications and surgical interventions. However, in approximately half of all cases, the underlying factor remains unknown, and many patients fail to achieve full seizure control. Furthermore, conventional therapies are often limited by side effects and recurrence, leaving many individuals without lasting relief. This study explores an alternative perspective rooted in the teachings of Dharma Master Jun Hong Lu (卢军宏) and the Guan Yin Citta Dharma Door (心灵法门), which understands epilepsy as a spiritual illness caused by karmic debts and spirit possession. Spirits (灵性), respectfully referring to the souls of deceased humans or animals, are the true source of the condition. Drawing on 13 Dharma dialogues and 4 documented cases of full recovery, we demonstrate that epilepsy is curable through dedicated Buddhist practices: making vows (许愿), reciting Buddhist scriptures (念经), performing life liberation (放生), studying Buddhism in Plain Terms (学习《白话佛法》), and repenting wrongdoings and refraining from doing them (大忏悔). These findings suggest that spirit interference is the root cause of epilepsy and that ascending spirits (超度灵性) through Buddhist practice offers a viable path to lasting recovery.

Introduction:
Epilepsy (癫痫) affects approximately 70 million people globally and represents a major cause of morbidity and premature mortality [1]. Up to 25% of individuals with epilepsy experience intellectual disability, while behavioral comorbidities are observed in as many as 75% of cases [2].
Epilepsy is a chronic neurological disorder characterized by recurrent, unprovoked seizures [2, 3]. These seizures result from sudden surges of electrical activity in the brain, which can impact behavior, movement, sensation, or consciousness [4]. Affecting individuals of all ages and backgrounds, epilepsy is one of the most prevalent neurological conditions worldwide.
Diagnosis of epilepsy typically involves a comprehensive evaluation that includes medical history, neurological examinations, and diagnostic tools such as imaging studies or electroencephalography (EEG) [5]. Treatment options encompass anti-seizure medications, lifestyle modifications, surgical interventions, and neuromodulation therapies. Many patients achieve effective seizure control through individualized management plans tailored to their specific needs.
There are currently 26 medications approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for the treatment of epilepsy [6]. With these medications, seizure freedom is achieved in approximately 60–70% of patients; however, a significant portion still experiences uncontrolled seizures. Moreover, anti-seizure medications can cause side effects, exacerbate comorbid coronary and cerebrovascular conditions, and contribute to the development of osteopenia and osteoporosis [6].
Beyond pharmacological treatment, epilepsy surgery is an important option, particularly for the 30–40% of patients with focal epilepsy whose seizures persist despite medication [7]. Surgical intervention can significantly reduce seizure frequency and may lower the risk of epilepsy-related mortality [8]. However, post-surgical memory decline is a common adverse effect [9].
Other treatment modalities include vagus nerve stimulation (VNS) and ketogenic diet therapies, etc. While these approaches can provide symptomatic relief, they are often considered temporary or palliative measures. To date, an ideal or definitive cure for epilepsy remains elusive.
When medicine reaches a dead end, Buddhism may open the door to an entirely new world. In fact, we previously reported a case of a child with severe epilepsy who was cured through her mother’s practice of the Guan Yin Citta Dharma Door [10]. This case suggests that epilepsy may not be purely a neurological or medical issue as commonly believed. Instead, its deeper cause may lie in karmic obstacles or spiritual interference. In other words, behind the neurological disruptions characteristic of epilepsy, there may be an underlying cause yet to be discovered by modern medicine.
To further support the Buddhist perspective on epilepsy, this article presents detailed teachings from Dharma Master Jun Hong Lu on the condition. Moreover, four cases are shared in which patients completely overcame epilepsy by following Master Lu’s guidance. These examples collectively demonstrate that Buddhism reveals the true underlying pathology of epilepsy.
Etiology, Pathogenesis, and Cure:
From a medical perspective, epilepsy has a wide range of potential causes, including genetic factors, brain injuries, infections, developmental disorders, structural abnormalities, neurotoxicity, stress, and stroke [11, 12, 13]. However, in up to 50% of cases, the cause remains unknown [13], a condition classified as idiopathic epilepsy.
As we have previously observed, when a wide array of factors is identified as potential causes of chronic disease, it often indicates that medicine has overlooked the true underlying cause, taking disease triggers for the actual root causes. Under such circumstances, medical treatments may only help alleviate symptoms but typically fail to provide a cure. This pattern has been evident in our earlier findings on neurological disorders such as Alzheimer's disease [14], myasthenia gravis [15], autism spectrum disorder [16], amyotrophic lateral sclerosis [17], Parkinson's disease [18], facial paralysis [19], and mental health conditions such as severe depression [20], oppositional defiant disorder [21], parapsychoarchia (schizophrenia) [22], and borderline personality disorder [23].
The following are 11 Dharma dialogues in which Master Lu answered questions about epilepsy, shedding light on its true underlying mechanism. From these conversations we can learn how Dharma views epilepsy’s etiology, and pathogenesis, and what are the solutions leading to the path of a full recovery.
Some terms used in this article may be unfamiliar to readers. For specific definitions, such as ‘Little House (小房子)’, ‘karma (业障)’, and ‘spirit (灵性)’ etc., please refer to our previous publications [10, 22].
Q&A 1. Epilepsy is the most typical type of spiritual illness [24]
(This dialogue took place over the phone on Jan 1, 2012)
Caller: Master Lu, may I ask, if someone puts in great effort reciting Buddhist scriptures and Little Houses for epilepsy, will the illness definitely be cured?
Master: One hundred percent it will be cured. Epilepsy is the most typical kind of spiritual illness. Each time a seizure occurs, the person is dragged down to the underworld (by the spirit). You must seize the time and recite diligently. If you do not act quickly, it will be too late.
Q&A 2. A five-year-old girl was a man in her previous life and accidentally killed someone, resulting in epilepsy in this life and being unable to attend school [25]
(This dialogue took place over the phone on July 21, 2015)
Caller: Hello Master Lu, thank you for your compassion! Please take a look at the totem for my daughter. She was born in 2000, the Year of the Loong. She has epilepsy.
Master: I see it. There is a male spirit on her—around sixty years old, with partly gray hair. He actually looks quite good, except his eyes are a bit close together and he has a fleshy nose. You need to quickly help her recite Buddhist scriptures.
Caller: I am doing it. I have recited over 300 Little Houses.
Master: That is not enough. You need to recite 690.
Caller: How many fish should I release?
Master: 20,000. Her blood cell distribution is very uneven, which causes her frequent stomachaches, headaches, and leg pain.
Caller: Yes, exactly.
Master: She has a mental illness, she often sits by herself and gets angry.
Caller: Yes, that is right.
Master: She is also afraid of seeing people. You must recite for her diligently and make big vows. If your financial situation does not allow for that many life releases, then recite more Little Houses. Do you understand?
Caller: Yes, I do.
Master: Also, make a great vow. Is your child a boy or a girl?
Caller: A girl.
Master: In her past life, she was a man. Oh, I see now, she is being haunted. In her previous life, she had karmic debt from killing. She accidentally caused someone’s death.
Caller: Oh… Does she have any other health issues?
Master: Nothing major, but her feet are swollen, her kidneys are not well, and she limps.
Caller: Her feet itch all the time.
Master: Her two leg bones are not the same length, one is shorter than the other, though you can not see it with the naked eye. If you watch her run, you will notice it. One leg is longer than the other. Understand?
Caller: Yes, I understand. Thank you, Master!
Master: You must help her recite diligently and make a great vow like, “Once my child’s illness is healed, I will publicly share her story to help others.” You must say this.
Caller: She has epilepsy and has seizures every day.
Master: Hurry up! You repaid her karmic creditors too few Little Houses. Burn more.
Caller: She seizes every day now and can not even go to school.
Master: I am telling you, right now the spirit is demanding a lot Little Houses. If you recite inconsistently, it will retaliate quickly.
Caller: I have only just come into contact with Guan Yin Citta Dharma Door for five months and have been reciting every day.
Master: Even if you recite every day, it is still not enough because you only just started. That is why the spirit is still targeting her.
Caller: I see.
Master: Okay. Be careful.
Caller: Thank you, Master!
Q&A 3: Epileptic child in a family with a history of killing karma [26]
(This dialogue took place over the phone on Oct. 9, 2014)
Caller: Master Lu, I would like you to check my son’s totem. He was born in 2008, the Year of the Rat.
Master: What would you like to know?
Caller: His health. He has epilepsy.
Master: The aborted child is on his body.
Caller: How many Little Houses do his karmic creditors need?
Master: 64 sheets. That spirit often goes to his body. Every time he has a seizure, it is tormenting him.
Caller: Yes, he has always been in poor health. Thank you, Master Lu.
Master: It is troublesome. His digestive tract is twisted, and he has a poor stomach, and picky eating habits, so his appetite is very poor.
Caller: Yes, he has a very poor appetite and often refuses to eat.
Master: That is exactly it.
Caller: Master Lu, aside from the 64 Little Houses for the epilepsy, what else should I pay attention to for his health?
Master: Besides that, you must also perform life liberation (放生), because he committed acts of killing in a past life.
Caller: Yes, our family also has a history of killing.
Master: I am telling you, you can not escape the retribution. And someone in your family fishes.
Caller: Yes, his grandfather used to catch fish.
Master: Aiya, see?
Caller: Master Lu, I previously vowed at the Buddhist altar to recite 500 Little Houses for his karmic creditors and to release 3,000 fish on his behalf. So are the 500 for his karmic creditors, and the 64 for the aborted child?
Master: Quickly recite. What you have recited is not enough.
Caller: Understood. Thank you, Master Lu.
Q&A 4: Epilepsy, picky eating, with the mother’s aborted child on him [27]
(This dialogue took place over the phone on May 23, 2015)
Caller: Master Lu, my son was born in 2005, the Year of the Rooster. He has epilepsy.
Master: First, he needs to pay attention to nutrition. He is not eating healthily.
Caller: Not eating healthily?
Master: Yes, he is very picky. He does not want this, does not want that. Secondly, one of your aborted children is on his body.
Caller: How many Little Houses do his karmic creditors need? I am reciting Buddhist scriptures for him.
Master: You need to recite the Heart Sutra for him daily.
Caller: I recite 7 times Heart Sutra for him every day.
Master: You need to recite 60 Little Houses in total.
Caller: Will he recover after reciting those 60?
Master: Yes, much better. But you still need to keep reciting.
Caller: The seizures happen when he sleeps.
Master: Yes, spasms. It is actually like having cramps.
Caller: Oh yes, cramps.
Master: Medically, this is called a "neurological disorder," causing severe skeletal distortion. Combined with calcium deficiency and cold, it leads to muscle spasms. That is the medical explanation. From a Buddhist perspective, if someone is possessed by a spirit, the spirit torments them this way.
Caller: So I need to recite Buddhist scriptures for my karmic creditors before helping my son’s karmic creditors?
Master: You can recite together.
Caller: Okay. Thank you.
Q&A 5: Epilepsy caused by karma activation and mother’s aborted child is on him (Except) [28]
(This dialogue took place over the phone on Dec. 22, 2012)
Caller: Hello, Master Lu! Please check my totem. Since August 4, 2011, I started having epileptic seizures but I do not know the reason. They happen every 60–70 days. I was born in 1980, the Year of the Monkey.
Master: This is a classic case of karmic obstacles being activated. You ate too many live creatures when you were younger.
Caller: I did not know back then. As I got older, I started to dislike eating meat.
Master: That is because you got sick and developed that aversion. You ate a lot in the past.
Caller: I started eating less meat when I was around ten.
Master: What about sea animals?
Caller: I do not eat it.
Master: You ate too much before. That is the first reason. The second is your mother had an abortion. That aborted child came onto you during your seizure on August 4.
Caller: My most recent seizure was on December 3. Is it related to my work?
Master: What is your job?
Caller: I work in a hospital.
Master: It is completely related.
Caller: My elders told me not to work in a hospital.
Master: You still need to work to survive. So keep working, but recite the Great Compassion Mantra daily. Work is work, and scripture recitation is scripture recitation. Don’t worry. Your seizures will happen less and less. If you are taking medication, since your recitation is going well and your conditions become relatively stable, tell your doctor to gradually reduce your dosage.
Caller: He still wants me to take medication.
Master: Taking too much will cause rickets, and bone atrophy. All medicine is somewhat toxic. It is better not to take it if you can. Who wants to take medicine?
Caller: So I need to recite the Great Compassion Mantra every day?
Master: Yes. Daily. You also need to perform life liberation. When you are in the hospital and see severe patients, do not think judgmentally, like “Oh, this person is so…” Do not think like that, or the spirit in the patient will jump onto you. Understand?
Caller: I understand. Can I switch to another job?
Master: If you can switch, that is best. You are not a doctor anyway, so it doesn’t matter. You can work a civil service job or something.
Q&A 6. A spirit on the cervical spine causes epilepsy; do not look at the memorial tablets of the deceased [29]
(This dialogue took place over the phone on Jan. 14, 2020)
Caller: Hello, Master! Please check for a girl born in 2009, the Year of the Ox. How is her health?
Master: Her waist and back are not good.
Caller: Hmm. Does she have a spirit in her body?
Master: Yes, on her cervical spine.
Caller: Oh. Western doctors diagnosed her with epilepsy.
Master: That is by the spirit, i.e., epilepsy is also caused by spiritual interference.
Caller: Her mother has vowed to recite 1,000 Little Houses, and release 10,000 fish, and 49 soft-shelled turtles. Is that enough?
Master: That is enough. Once done, there should be obvious improvement.
Caller: Is the spirit on her body an elderly person?
Master: Yes, a male.
Caller: Before her condition started, she had frequent outbursts of anger. Later, she looked at a photo of a deceased person’s memorial tablet, and within days she began having seizures. Could it be related…?
Master: See?! You must not look at memorial tablets of the deceased, understand?
Caller: Understood. Also, when she was hospitalized, her mother thought: that if her daughter recovered, she would close her shop and dedicate more time to spreading the Dharma. After this thought, her daughter immediately improved significantly. Did this thought turn into a vow and then into merits and virtues?
Master: Yes, that is exactly what happened.
Caller: Besides the 1,000 Little Houses she vowed, is there anything else she should do?
Master: Recite Buddhist scriptures, make greater vows, and become fully vegetarian. The spirit is still on her.
Caller: This fellow practitioner is already fully vegetarian.
Q&A 7. The debt-collecting spirit fled from the underworld and was condemned to suffer on Earth, resulting in birth epilepsy; changing his name offers little benefit [30]
(This dialogue took place over the phone on Oct. 13, 2020)
Caller: Hello, Master! Please look at a boy born in 2019, the Year of the Pig. Will he need surgery? He was born with epilepsy. His family vowed 1,000 Little Houses and released 10,000 fish. Do they need to vow more Little Houses or fish releases?
Master: A big trouble. The child will not live long. More fish releases are needed. How old is he now?
Caller: Just over one year old.
Master: A debt-collecting spirit. This child escaped from the underworld. His soul is not intact. It is not just epilepsy. He will also limp when walking in the future.
Caller: How many Little Houses do his karmic creditors still need?
Master: First finish the 1,000.
Caller: Okay. His name is Z- Y-. Is this name okay?
Master: It is average. “Y-” is floating. It indicates an unstable soul.
Caller: What if changing it to Z- T-?
Master: Changing the name will not do much. His fate is to be punished in the human realm. Reciting more Buddhist scriptures for him is good for him.
Caller: So the main thing is reciting, making vows, and releasing animals, right?
Master: Yes.
Caller: Name is secondary?
Master: Yes, changing it will not help much. But the new name can still be used.
Caller: Okay.
Master: Have him prepare a few more names, and I will pick one for him next time.
Caller: Okay.
Q&A 8. On epilepsy [31]
(This dialogue took place over the phone on May 31, 2013)
Caller: Hello, Master! My daughter was born in 2010, the Year of the Tiger. At nine months, she had a high fever, then a brain hemorrhage, bleeding under the arachnoid membrane. Now she has hemiplegia and frequently suffers from epilepsy, about 4-5 times a day.
Master: How old is she now?
Caller: Not yet three.
Master: Her karmic debts have not been resolved. Daily seizures mean her soul is being pulled down to the underworld. It shows her karma is extremely heavy.
Caller: Yes. She was born on the 19th day of the sixth lunar month, the day of Guan Yin Bodhisattva’s enlightenment.
Master: Just because someone is born on that day does not mean they are Guan Yin Bodhisattva.
Caller: I know. She has a large birthmark on her lower back. Maybe she was punished and sent down from Heaven.
Master: Two possibilities. One is that she committed wrongdoings.
Caller: I know I have deep karmic debts. My family also shares heavy collective karma (共业). We will definitely cultivate diligently.
Master: You must. It may be related to fishing in past lives.
Caller: Yes, yes, you are absolutely right. My husband’s family lives by the sea. My father-in-law used to catch a lot of fish and crabs.
Master: The retribution has landed on your child. It is also possible that the child is a reincarnated ancestor. Maybe your father-in-law, after dying, came back as your child to suffer because of fishing karma.
Caller: But my father-in-law and mother-in-law are still alive, just not in good health.
Master: Maybe it is your husband’s grandfather or grandmother. After death, they reincarnate into your child to make you suffer and exhaust your family’s finances as karmic retribution.
Caller: I understand, Master. I have been reciting Little Houses since January 1st. I have recited over 760 sheets now. A fellow practitioner helped me call the Dharma Q&A (Wenda line, 玄艺问答). You said we need 1,000 Little Houses and gave us a daily homework assignment: 21 Great Compassion Mantras, 49 Heart Sutras, 49 of each minor Buddhist scripture, and 5 Eighty-Eight Buddhas Repentance daily. We persist with it every day. The child’s condition has improved: seizure frequency has dropped from 4-5 times a day to 2-3. The duration has also shortened significantly: each seizure now lasts only 2-3 seconds, whereas they used to last 4-5 minutes.
Master: That is right.
Caller: Also, the hemiplegia: her right hand and foot do not move much. After we wash her feet daily using water added with yellow wine as you instructed, the right foot moves a lot during the foot bath.
Master: Hmm.
Caller: Both feet twitch forcefully. She has improved a lot.
Master: Much better already. Step by step, okay?
Q&A 9. In a past life, he crushed someone under a rock – hence epilepsy and low intelligence in this life [32]
(The totem reading dialogue took place over the phone on September 3, 2020)
Caller: Hello, Master! A child born in 2005, the Year of the Monkey, used to suffer from epilepsy, and his IQ is only 59. He would soil himself. He has gotten a bit better now. Can you see why he developed this illness?
Master: He created karmic offenses in a past life and now someone (spirit) is watching him. In a previous life, he crushed someone under a rock. I do not know if it was intentional or accidental.
Caller: How many Little Houses are needed?
Master: A lot. 340 sheets.
Caller: Okay, I will let them listen to the recording. What is his karmic obstacle percentage? Will he have a chance to become a monastic in the future?
Master: He is still so young. Do not worry about that now. Once his karmic debts are repaid, his body will get better.
Caller: Okay.
Q&A 10. Intellectual disability and epilepsy caused by consanguineous marriage [33]
(Master’s response to a Letter of Doubt (Part 30) – Question No. 72)
Inquirer: A fellow practitioner’s parents were first cousins, which was common in the past. Her son and nephew both have epilepsy and intellectual disabilities. Are these karmic illnesses related to the consanguineous marriage of her parents?
Master: Absolutely. Even from a genetic standpoint, there is a basis for this. From the spiritual realm’s perspective, consanguineous marriage brings karmic obstacles much closer. They are bound to face retribution in this life. Normally, people’s karmic debts are somewhat separate, but in close-kin marriage, their respective karmic debts get transferred to each other. That means she now has to bear karmic burdens that originally weren’t hers.
Q&A 11. Feedback: my epilepsy was cured after practicing Guan Yin Citta Dharma Door [34]
(This dialogue took place over the phone on Oct. 9, 2015)
Caller: Hello, Master! I would like to share my experience. I started practicing Guan Yin Citta Dharma Door in May 2012, and it has been more than three years now. I used to suffer from epilepsy, and the cause of my seizures was completely unknown from a medical perspective. All my test results came back normal, even during the episodes.
When it was at its worst, I could not even sleep at home at night. Not just at night, but even during the day I could not stay indoors. My family had to constantly stay by my side. I would feel as though I was not really present in the room. I had no idea where I was. It felt as if I were utterly alone, and something was wrapping around me, not letting me go. It was terrifying. I lived in constant fear and cried every day.
However, even in those moments, I kept thinking, “The Bodhisattva will definitely save me. I must keep trying.” I held on and persisted in practicing Buddhism for three years. Now, I can finally sleep on my own at night without needing my family’s company. I can take care of my child and do housework. I am truly, deeply grateful to the Greatly Merciful and Greatly Compassionate Guan Yin Bodhisattva, and grateful to Master Lu!
Back then, my condition was extremely severe. I managed to call in and speak with Master Lu several times. At night, even in the heat of summer, I would feel cold and have to cover myself with a thick quilt, trembling all over. This is how bad it was. Around 1 or 2 a.m., I would suddenly sit up in bed during a seizure.
Since I began practicing Guan Yin Citta, I have been seizure-free for over a year now.
Master: That was a spirit possessing you.
Caller: And I would constantly be in tears, crying every day. I could not sleep at night, and I could not sleep during the day either. I could not even get two hours of rest in a whole day. I held on in that state for two years and I pulled through. Now I have been well for over a year. I am so, so grateful to Master and to the Bodhisattva!
Master: You still need to help more people become awakened.
Caller: Yes, I have been working hard on that.
Master: Let me give you a piece of advice: “Help awaken good-hearted people.” Understand?
Caller: Yes, I understand. I will definitely follow the Master’s guidance.
From the perspective of the Guan Yin Citta Dharma Door, epilepsy is considered a spiritual illness rooted in karmic causes and spiritual disturbances. The underlying etiology involves past-life transgressions, such as killing, abortion, or unresolved karmic debts, which manifest as spirit possession in this life. The pathogenesis of epilepsy is described as the direct torment caused by spirits or aborted children who attach themselves to the patient, leading to seizures and other neurological symptoms. The cure involves consistent recitation of Buddhist scriptures, especially the Heart Sutra, Great Compassion Mantra, and the Eighty-Eight Buddhas Repentance, as well as offering Little Houses to karmic creditors, performing life liberation (such as releasing fish), and making great vows including adopting a fully vegetarian lifestyle and not killing animals. These Dharma practices will reduce karmic obstacles, help spirits ascend, and ultimately lead to the alleviation or complete recovery from epilepsy.

Case 1. My epileptic daughter miraculously recovered via Buddhism
I have believed in Buddhism since I was a child. I like to listen to people talk about Buddhism. My grandmother’s family also worshiped Guan Yin Bodhisattva, so I should have some affinity for Buddhism. I came into contact with Guan Yin Citta Dharma Door when I found out that my daughter had severe epilepsy.
My daughter was a bright, kind, healthy child who did well at school. In 2016, when she was in the third grade of elementary school (about 9 years old), she began to show symptoms of epilepsy. At first, her symptoms were mild and she got better immediately after the seizure. When she was admitted to the local hospital for an examination, she was wrongly treated for a viral cold. Later, she was diagnosed with epilepsy when she was taken to an authoritative hospital in Shanghai for an examination.
For the next six months, she travelled to the hospital every month for checkups. She took her medication on time and in the right amount when she returned home. However, her seizures became more frequent and severe. Every time she had a seizure, she became very poor: her face was black, she kept coughing and foaming, and her body was twisted, stiff and unconscious. This state was very disturbing to watch and lasted for several minutes, and it took a long time to recover consciousness. After each attack, she was very weak, dizzy and had a headache, and needed to sleep for half a day to recover. Her pain was worse than death. We were in fear all day long.
Before the child’s attack, we ate live sea animals at home, often and in large quantities.
Faced with our sick daughter, we were puzzled and helpless. Why did our daughter’s condition not improve even though we took care of her carefully and followed the doctor’s medication prescriptions? There was nothing the doctor could do but increase the medicine dosage. As time passed, she had seizures every few days. Every time I received a call from the teacher, I was shocked. Epilepsy seriously affected her studies, and her academic performance dropped from excellent to failing, and then down to zero. By the second year of middle school, we helped her withdraw after the school persuaded us to do so. At that time, looking at the poor child crying all the way home, my heart was like a knife. I felt as though her future had been stolen, and I cried alongside her.
What should we do? I am not well myself. I have serious insomnia, and depression, and always want to die. The only thing I can not let go of is my child. I do not know where this life will end. I think it is really too hard to live! We have spent a lot of money treating her. In addition to visiting the hospital, we also looked for several psychics to help her many times. Every time, full of hope, yet again disappointed, her disease did not show any signs of improvement. I almost despair.
The pain of sentient beings is the pain of Bodhisattvas. Perhaps it is my accumulated blessings from previous lives, or perhaps I still have some affinity with Buddhism. In 2018, the opportunity to study Buddhism finally arose. Once, I attended an accountant’s training course. In the elevator of the building, I met a Guan Yin Citta Dharma Door practitioner pushing a bicycle. I helped her pull the bike head, and she thanked me and added me to her WeChat friend list. This is fate!
During class, she sent me some links to Buddhism. I was very excited to read them, and it was like I saw a ray of hope in the dark. This was the Dharma Door I was looking for! Immediately after class, I made an appointment to meet her. When I saw her, I did not say a word before crying, as if I had seen a long-lost relative. I cried out all the grievance, pain and suppression I had felt for a long time. She offered me Buddhist books and Dharma Gems to recite Buddhist scriptures. She patiently taught me how to do daily recitation and showed me how to recite the Eighty-Eight Buddhas Great Repentance. I am grateful to her for helping me selflessly and giving me confidence in studying Buddhism and reciting the sutras and mantras.
After that, I started reciting Buddhist scriptures according to her instructions. At first, I recited very few sutras and mantras, only a few times a day. However, I was very devout and my heart was clear when I read them. This is because I knew I found a way to save my daughter.
Soon after I recited Buddhist scriptures, I made vows to Guan Yin Bodhisattva:
(1) Be a vegetarian for a lifetime;
(2) Live an ascetic life for a lifetime;
(3) Release beings.
I decided to use Buddhism to save myself and my child.
After daily recitations for a week, I started reciting the Little Houses. I made a vow to Guan Yin Bodhisattva:
(1) I would repay 200 Little Houses to my child's karmic creditors within one year.
After I learned Buddhism, I performed life liberation every now and then and never stopped. In total, I helped my child release several tens of thousands of fish. She herself conducted daily recitations and chanted the holy name of Guan Yin Bodhisattva. She studied Buddhism in Plain Terms. She was very sensible. She herself made 3 vow to Guan Yin Bodhisattva:
(1) She would become a vegetarian;
(2) She would respect the Master and His teachings;
(3) Devote herself to one Buddhist practice and never quit.
Later, although she recited Little Houses slowly, she did so on her own initiative.
Before I learned Buddhism, in addition to the epileptic symptoms mentioned above, she also had bad habits of self-harm, talking to herself, sudden tantrums, and always being a glutton for food. After studying Buddhism, we knew that the root cause of her illness was the presence of karmic creditors who wanted to collect debts from her. Master Lu has enlightened us to seek medical advice for physical illnesses and to seek Dharma advice for illnesses that cannot be cured by doctors. Epilepsy is a 100 percent spiritual disease that cannot be cured by doctors. Therefore, we used a two-pronged approach. While continuing the medical treatment, we eliminated her karma and paid off her karmic debts. We performed the Three Golden Buddhist Practices of making vows, performing recitations of Buddhist scriptures and life liberation.
The child dreamed that her karmic creditor was a classmate from her previous life’s Military Officer Academy school who died by suicide. After I paid 21 Little Houses to her creditor, she dreamed that her classmate took off his hat and bowed to her in thanks. He said that the Little Houses healed his left hand injury. After a while, I noticed a slight improvement in all aspects of my child's life: gradually she stopped hurting herself, talked less to herself, and stopped being a glutton for food. Every time I saw her progress, I was moved to tears. I am really grateful to the Greatly Merciful and Greatly Compassionate Guan Yin Bodhisattva! Gratitude to Master Lu!
At the beginning, I followed Master Lu’s teachings and performed the Three Golden Buddhist Practices to help my daughter. Now, I still follow Master Lu’s teachings and perform the Five Golden Buddhist Practices of "making vows, performing recitations of Buddhist scriptures, performing life liberation, repenting of wrongdoings and refraining from doing them, and studying Buddhism in Plain Terms" to assist her eliminate her karma and repay her karmic debts. In the past 5 years, I have helped her karmic creditors a total of about 900 Little Houses and released several tens of thousands of fish. Her karmic creditors even came to her dream and informed her of their connections in previous lives. This also reinforces our belief that people really have past lives and present lives. Therefore, we must know the cause and understand the effect, and we must respect the cause and effect. We should transcend all illusions and never create new karma. We must practice and cultivate our minds and behavior well to free ourselves from the afflictions of reincarnation.
As our practice deepens, we find that there is a certain pattern to her attacks - every first or fifteenth day of every month of the Lunar New Year, or around big underworld festivals such as Ching Ming Festival or Hungry Ghost Festival, she is more likely to have an attack. Her attack was preceded by a tantrum. In response, we would urgently offer Little Houses to repay her karmic creditors. Gradually, her attacks decreased from once every two or three days in the past to once a week, once every half a month, and then once every two or three months. As her health improved, her medicine dosage gradually reduced. By the time we reached the third year of Dharma practice, she had only one attack in 6 months. Now, she is basically recovered.
She interrupted her studies because of her illness. Thanks to the compassionate arrangement of Guan Yin Bodhisattva, a teacher whom I had not contacted for a long time suddenly called twice and enthusiastically arranged a school for her to attend. When I offered incense to Bodhisattva after each call from this teacher, the incense ash made a big roll. Once again, I could not help but shed tears of gratitude for Guan Yin Bodhisattva's compassionate arrangement! Everything was perfectly arranged!
I am grateful from my inner heart to the great Guan Yin Bodhisattva! I am grateful to our benefactor, compassionate Father Jun Hong Lu! I am grateful to my fellow practitioners who transformed me into a Buddhist and helped me! I am grateful to Guan Yin Citta Dharma Door!
After the aborted child and my karmic creditors ascended, I was cured of all my illnesses. Before I learned Buddhism, I suffered from depression, I felt tired of living, I wanted to die but did not dare to (I didn't have the courage to die, and I could not let go), and I could only live like a walking corpse. After studying Buddhism and reciting Buddhist scriptures, my mindset changed dramatically. I felt I had something to hold on to, a sense of security, and hope!
I am sharing my personal experience of Buddhism to tell you that Guan Yin Citta Dharma Door is prestigious and effective, and it is true! As long as we firmly believe, follow the methods taught by Master Lu, perform the Five Golden Buddhist Practices, and truly practice, we will definitely be able to change our destiny and start a better life!
I, not my fellow practitioners, will be responsible for my own karma!

Case 2. My hereditary epileptic son recovered through Buddhism
Today, with immense gratitude in my heart, I share my firsthand experience of helping my son recover from epilepsy through Buddhist practice and chanting Buddhist scriptures.
In 2004, when my 17-year-old son started experiencing seizures, he was diagnosed with epilepsy after undergoing electroencephalogram testing at the hospital. These three Chinese characters (癫痫病) struck me like a bolt from the blue, leaving me speechless with overwhelming grief. The memory of my cousin, who lived in a rural area and succumbed to this condition, haunted me. He suffered from seizures and passed away in his own home restroom when he was in his thirties, leaving behind 3 children, the youngest being only 3 years old, which was truly heartbreaking. Fueled by determination, I pledged to do everything in my ability to save my son, praying fervently for his swift recovery.
In 2014, I was fortunate enough to encounter the Guan Yin Bodhisattva's Dharma Door, the Guan Yin Citta Dharma Door. After watching Master Lu's Dharma teachings videos repeatedly and listening to His recorded sermons, I realized that there was hope for my son! I learned that I could save him by employing the Three Golden Buddhist Practices – making vows, reciting Buddhist scriptures, and performing life liberation.
I made vows to Guan Yin Bodhisattva:
(1) Be vegetarian for life;
(2) Respect my Dharma Master and His teachings, and diligently practice Buddhism without quitting;
(3) Recite Little Houses for my son's karmic creditors (not remember the exact number);
(4) Liberate 5000 fish;
(5) Publicly share my son's recovery story once he is cured, spreading the Dharma and benefiting others.
I prayed to the Bodhisattva to compassionately bless my son to recover from epilepsy soon.
After making these vows, I began waking up at 4-5 o’clock every morning to engage in my daily recitations. I recited Buddhist scriptures and Little Houses, then proceeded to perform daily recitations specifically for my son. Despite managing my family business during the day, I persisted in my recitations and efforts to transform sentient beings. I was pleasantly surprised to observe that my son's seizure frequency gradually decreased.
In 2019, when my son, at the age of 32, experienced a seizure while driving on the highway, he regained consciousness to find the car safely parked on the side of the road, both himself and the vehicle unharmed. I deeply understood that this was all due to the compassionate blessings of the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas, protecting him from harm!
Before 2021, my son would often experience brief moments of unconsciousness. However, since he experienced a minor, mild seizure in 2021 at the age of 34, he has not had any seizures since then. This fills me with immense joy and gratitude. Gratitude to Guan Yin Bodhisattva!
In 2021, my son was hospitalized due to high blood sugar levels. After 5 days in the hospital with his blood sugar and blood pressure remaining high, I transferred my merits and virtues to him. On the 6th day, both his blood sugar and blood pressure decreased. On the 7th day, he was discharged from the hospital. After discharge, he received insulin injections. By the year 2023, he no longer needed medication. His blood sugar and blood pressure returned to normal.
Over the past 6 years, I have recited a total of thousands of Little Houses for my son’s karmic creditors. Through my strenuous efforts over these many years, I have finally managed to cure my son’s epilepsy.
I deeply understand that it was Buddhism that healed my son’s illness. This realization fills me with confidence and strengthens my resolve. Both my son and I have greatly benefited from the Guan Yin Citta Dharma Door, and I am always eager to share this transformative path of Buddhist practice with others.
Those who possess faith, and commitment, and take action will undoubtedly reap the benefits, while those who lack belief can only be subject to their own destiny. In 2018, my cousin’s 28-year-old daughter tragically choked to death during a meal due to a seizure caused by epilepsy. In fact, back in 2015, I had invited her to join me at a Dharma Conference in Hong Kong, but she declined. Looking back on it now, if she had attended the conference and engaged in Buddhist practices, perhaps three years later, she would still be with us. It is truly regrettable!
After practicing Buddhism, we have not only recited Buddhist scriptures but also gained a deeper understanding of Buddhist teachings. Studying Master Lu's Buddhism in Plain Terms and listening to His radio lectures have made me realize how many mistakes I have made in the past and taught me how to cultivate and practice. Now, as I apply the Five Golden Buddhist Practices I find myself benefiting more and more. Understanding Master Lu's Buddhism in Plain Terms has also made it easier for me to transform others!
I am grateful to Sakyamuni Buddha for imparting such profound Buddhist teachings to us. I am grateful to Guan Yin Bodhisattva for introducing us to such a precious Dharma Door in this world. I am grateful to our great and compassionate Master Jun Hong Lu for coming to this world to save countless suffering beings. I am grateful to all Buddhas and Bodhisattvas for not only saving my son, saving me, but also saving our entire family! We are so fortunate and blessed to encounter the right Dharma! I aspire to become one of the hands and eyes of Guan Yin Bodhisattva, diligently practicing Buddhism, spreading the Dharma, and helping more sentient beings having an affinity with Buddha to transcend suffering and change their destinies!
I will be responsible for my own karma!

Case 3. Guan Yin Citta Dharma Door rescued my daughter with epilepsy from despair and brought her back to light
My daughter was born in November 2013. Starting in March 2016, she began to suffer from frequent febrile convulsions. Even a minor cold would easily develop into a high fever that would not subside, leading to seizures that rendered her unconscious. Especially when she fell ill in the middle of the night, my once lively, adorable, and intelligent daughter would become completely unresponsive as if separated from me by life and death. The agony, helplessness, and heartbreak I experienced were beyond words. Pain tore through my heart.
In December 2017, she underwent EEG and MRI scans. The EEG results were abnormal, and the MRI showed slight swelling in the bilateral hippocampal regions. She was diagnosed with severe epilepsy. I could not accept the diagnosis and resisted facing the truth. Even during those darkest years, I never told colleagues or friends about her condition. I bore all the pain silently on my own.
Over the years, we spared no effort or expense to seek medical treatment for my daughter, but nothing worked. She suffered a lot. Medicine had no cure.
The unbearable pain from my past brought me to tears in silence. My life felt like a living hell. When my daughter was just three months old, my husband committed a crime and was imprisoned. I had to raise our daughter alone. On top of that, she had such a serious illness, suffering repeated seizures and comas. Each day felt unbearable, and I contemplated ending my life. But I could not leave my daughter behind, so I had to endure the suffering. I silently prayed to Bodhisattva for my daughter’s recovery.
Indeed, sincerity moves the heavens. Guan Yin Bodhisattva did not abandon me, a lost and desperate child. In April 2018, I finally encountered Buddhism. At the lowest point in my life, I called my elder sister and poured out my sorrow. She had already started practicing the Guan Yin Citta Dharma Door. She told me that my daughter was suffering from a spiritual illness and explained to me what that meant in detail. Later, she introduced me to fellow practitioner W. After I shared my daughter’s story with him, he told me this was karmic retribution and that my daughter’s illness was a typical case of spirit possession. Only through Guan Yin Bodhisattva could my daughter be saved. He sent me Master Lu’s totem reading videos and many miraculous stories from other practitioners. I cried as I watched them.
Looking back, my family carried heavy killing karmic burdens. One year after I married my husband, he had an affair and during a confrontation, he accidentally killed the woman and her unborn child. He was soon arrested and imprisoned, facing karmic retribution. I, too, committed karmic offenses by engaging in improper sexual conduct and having an abortion. Each time my daughter had a seizure, the painful expression on her face seemed like a spirit was coming to collect its debt. Here, I sincerely repent before Guan Yin Bodhisattva.
During this time, my daughter’s seizures were terrifying. The worst episode left her lips purple, her face blackened, and her body limp like a corpse. I was horrified. Our family released 1,200 fish as a life liberation offering, and I fervently called on Guan Yin Bodhisattva to save her. Under the Bodhisattva’s compassionate protection, she regained consciousness and her complexion returned to normal.
Human life is incredibly fragile—just a matter of minutes. If not for the boundless compassion of Guan Yin Bodhisattva, my daughter would not have survived. I am deeply grateful to the Bodhisattva and to Master Lu! Practitioner W told me that the only way my daughter could live a normal life was to repay karmic debts by reciting scriptures. Only then could karmic grievances be resolved and her spirit creditors forgive her.
Practitioner W sent me Buddhist scriptures free of charge. When I received them, it felt like a lifeline. I immediately began studying. With Guan Yin Bodhisattva’s compassionate blessings, I quickly learned how to recite various scriptures. I also asked Practitioner W how to set daily recitations for both myself and my daughter, how to make vows, and how to perform life liberation. Although I could not afford large-scale fish releases due to financial limitations, I did them as often as I could. Practitioner W offered me selfless help.
After one week of doing daily recitations, I started reciting Little Houses. I vowed to offer them in batches of 21 to my own karmic creditors, and 1,000 Little Houses for my daughter, in batches of 49. I worked during the day and chanted at night. To save my daughter, no hardship was too great. Chanting scriptures cost little: just time, effort, and sincerity. I believed my daughter would recover.
One night, I dreamed of a white-robed emissary descending from a landscape painting in my living room. The figure finally revealed itself as Guan Yin Bodhisattva and disappeared. On October 21, 2018, I vowed to become a lifelong vegetarian and never to take life again. I transferred 50% of the merits and virtues from my vegetarian vow to my daughter for her recovery. That very night, I dreamed of kneeling in front of a Buddhist altar at a fellow practitioner’s home, looking up at Guan Yin Bodhisattva. The Bodhisattva transformed into a kindly elderly person and gently told me that my recitation of the Heart Sutra was not enough, and then disappeared. I later realized this was the Bodhisattva encouraging and blessing me. With Guan Yin Bodhisattva’s support, I began to feel confident that my daughter could be saved.
In May 2019, with the help of fellow practitioners, I had the great fortune of attending the Singapore Dharma Conference with my daughter. Upon entering the venue, I saw the compassionate image of Guan Yin Bodhisattva and Master Lu. I felt as if I were seeing my own parents. I wept with emotion. Fellow practitioners offered us so much love and help, even helping care for my daughter.
At the conference, my daughter acted very differently. She tried to bite me, which frightened me. Only under the blessings of Guan Yin Bodhisattva did she calm down. After one seizure, she lay on the ground and refused to get up. When I tried to help her, she resisted and tried to bite me again. In pain and despair, I knelt before Guan Yin Bodhisattva and repented deeply for all my past wrongdoings, praying to the Bodhisattva for forgiveness and a second chance at life. I vowed to live a an ascetic life and to share my story once my daughter recovered.
In July 2019, with the help of fellow practitioners, I set up a Buddhist altar at home and invited a sacred image of Guan Yin Bodhisattva from 2OR Oriental Radio. However, due to my karmic obstacles and my mother-in-law’s lack of faith, they strongly opposed the altar, creating constant conflict. I recited the Mantra to Untie Karmic Knots daily to dissolve the resentment. In gratitude to Guan Yin Bodhisattva’s compassion, my mother-in-law eventually stopped interfering.
In August 2019, my daughter often could not sit still in class. She was hyperactive and would run off alone. I was at work and could not watch her, and several times I had to retrieve her from the police station. She was defiant and did not listen to us. With an unhappy marriage, a sick and rebellious daughter, and all the difficulties I faced, the blessings from attending the Dharma conference helped me understand the law of cause and effect. I gained clarity. I continued reciting the Mantra to Untie Karmic Knots, praying Guan Yin Bodhisattva to help resolve the karmic ties between me and my husband.
When I had recited over 1,000 Little Houses for my daughter’s karmic creditors, I dreamed of reconciling with the woman involved with my husband. Around the same time, my daughter began to improve. Her seizures became less frequent, and she began to listen to me. This strengthened my faith, so I continued making vows, reciting Buddhist scriptures, and performing life liberation.
By the time I had completed more than 2,000 Little Houses for her karmic creditors, her seizures stopped entirely. She became obedient and stopped running off on her own.
On October 24, 2020, I took her for another EEG and MRI scan. Everything came back normal. I was overjoyed. The Little Houses are truly miraculous. The Guan Yin Citta Dharma Door is real and powerful. I am deeply grateful to the Greatly Merciful and Greatly Compassionate Guan Yin Bodhisattva and to my benevolent Master Jun Hong Lu.
In this lifetime, I am incredibly fortunate to have encountered the Guan Yin Citta Dharma Door and such a wonderful Master. These are the blessings accumulated over countless lifetimes. From now on, I will wholeheartedly follow Master Lu to cultivate my mind and behavior, diligently study the Guan Yin Citta Dharma Door only, liberate myself and help others, widely help those having affinities with Buddha, do more good deeds, accumulate merits and virtues, and never stop! Never quit!
To those destined beings who are still hesitating, I sincerely urge you to pick up the Buddhist scriptures and start reciting. The Bodhisattvas truly exist, and the Guan Yin Citta Dharma Door is extraordinarily supreme. As long as you believe in Guan Yin Bodhisattva’s Dharma Door and sincerely recite scriptures to repay your karmic debts, your destiny will surely change.
Dharma practitioner: P126, Gratitude and Namaste!
Case 4. Severe epileptic and autistic daughter stopped seizures by Buddhism
(1). My daughter has suffered from epilepsy since she was half a year old
During the late stages of my pregnancy, it was discovered that my unborn daughter might have a brain cyst. Immediately, we went to see a specialist. The consulting professor mentioned that the child's condition could go either way: she might be born healthy and later develop issues, she might be born with problems, or she might be perfectly fine. It seemed like he had not said anything at all. Regardless, this was a life we could not easily give up on. My husband and I decided to go through with the birth!
After birth, our daughter was doing well. My father even said that the doctor was just talking nonsense, creating unnecessary worries by suggesting illnesses where there were none. Unfortunately, the good times did not last. When she was 7.5 months old, I would never forget that early morning when she suddenly had a seizure, her face turning black, her limbs stiffening, and her mouth emitting terrifying noises. She was rushed to the hospital and later transferred by ambulance. From that moment on, we embarked on a long journey in search of medical help.
At the age of two and a half, our daughter underwent brain surgery to remove the cyst in the hypothalamic basal ganglia. During her recovery period, a brief lapse by an adult resulted in her hitting the back of her head on the ground, causing extensive fluid buildup at the surgical site. Subsequently, her seizures became more frequent, progressing from every half year to every three months, then every month, and eventually escalating to every week, every three days, and every two days. Each seizure was a cluster seizure, with her experiencing about twenty breath-holding episodes and convulsions every day. She was tormented by illness, and our lives were also tormented by her suffering.
Over the course of 10 years, we tried more than a dozen different medications, but none could control her condition. I quit my job to devote myself entirely to caring for her, and my husband turned down many foreign trade opportunities to spend more time with her.
We kept a bag packed at all times in case of hospitalization, ready to rush our daughter to the hospital at the first sign of a seizure. During that time, we felt lost and exhausted, but we knew we had to do everything we could to protect her and ensure her well-being. Despite being physically and mentally drained, we gave it our all.
During this period, friends recommended that we seek help from a master. We participated in life-releasing ceremonies (When reciting the Great Compassion Mantra, we felt ashamed because we had never recited Buddhist scriptures before and were merely going through the motions). We even overcame altitude sickness to travel to Tibetan areas to seek blessings from a Lama, earnestly praying for our daughter's health.
(2). We encountered the Guan Yin Citta Dharma Door
Perhaps our sincerity touched Heaven. On one occasion, a distant relative suddenly contacted me and said, "Sister-in-law, I have noticed how tough things have been for you and my brother over the years. I have a colleague here who practices Buddhism and recites something called “Little House,” which is said to be very efficacious. Maybe you should give it a try."
When I heard the name "Little House," it didn't feel unfamiliar to me. I had come across it multiple times while searching online for keywords like "epilepsy, Buddhism," and so on. However, perhaps the timing was not right, as I had merely glanced over it before without delving deeper, feeling uncertain. It was not until this relative mentioned it again that I thought maybe Bodhisattvas were truly coming to our aid!
With the help of fellow Buddhist practitioners, I started doing daily recitation of Buddhist scriptures and began reciting the first Little House. Influenced by me, my husband also started reciting scriptures. Soon, we learned how to recite the Heart Sutra, the Great Compassion Mantra, etc. I remember sharing with Buddhist friends when I recited the first Little House. They all encouraged us, rejoicing in our efforts. At that time, it felt like we had grasped a lifeline and gained a confidence we had never experienced before.
With the assistance of fellow Buddhist practitioners, we set up a Buddhist altar in our home.
(3). Our daughter was lucky to have her totem read by Master Lu at Buddhist conference
With the abundant blessings of our daughter and the help of fellow practitioners, we traveled to Hong Kong to attend Master Lu's Buddhist Conference. From my daughter’s totem Master Lu revealed our ancestral karmic debts related to killing, promoting us to release 21,000 fish and recite 600 Little Houses (Q&A 12). Upon returning from the conference, we promptly organized the release of animals and diligently recited Buddhist scriptures daily and Little Houses.
Due to brain damage, our daughter cannot read, so we did not expect her to recite Buddhist scriptures. However, we read Master Lu’s Buddhism in Plain Terms to her every day, telling her that the grandfather on the cover is called Grandpa Lu. So, from time to time, she would blurt out: "Grandpa Lu."
(4). Our daughter was lucky to have her totem read by Master Lu again at Buddhist conference
Days passed as usual, and my daughter's condition remained unchanged for a while.
Then, her seizures became more frequent and severe, leaving us uncertain whether she would collapse suddenly at any moment. For safety, we had to secure her in a wheelchair whenever we went out. Compassionate fellow practitioners offered numerous recited Little Houses to my daughter. Letters arrived one after another, and packages like snowflakes landed at our door. Each Little House was recited with painstaking effort and dedication by fellow practitioners, who selflessly offered to help our daughter. What fearless generosity! This kindness is unforgettable in this lifetime!
In May 2019, we embarked on another journey to attend a Buddhist Conference—the Singapore Buddhist Conference. With the collective help of fellow practitioners, we finally had the opportunity to have Master Lu read our daughter's Totem once again (Q&A 13). I remember it was already late that day, and Master Lu was tired. Nevertheless, He blessed us on the spot and pointed out that our daughter's spirit was still at her neck vertebrae. He instructed us to recite 700 more Little Houses and release 108 turtles. He also pointed out that the quality of our previous Little Houses was not high; although we had recited over 3500, only about 700 had been effective. We repented on-site during the Buddhist Conference.
On that day, our daughter behaved strangely, suddenly crawling on the ground. Such behavior was rare even at home. Master Lu explained that it was the spirit manifesting in her body. Master Lu also pointed out that there was heavy karmic debt related to killing in our home and emphasized the need for more recitation of the Amitabha Pure Land Rebirth Mantra. He mentioned that the spirit would completely leave our daughter within 3 years, and after reciting the 700 Little Houses, her condition would noticeably improve.
Now, five years have passed since Master Lu blessed our daughter during the Singapore Buddhist Conference. Miraculously, she has not had a single seizure since then.
Master, can you see this from Heaven? We are grateful to you!
(5). Our daughter learned to recite Buddhist scriptures
Grateful for the compassionate blessings of the Bodhisattvas and Master, which enabled our daughter to develop wisdom and learn to recite the Heart Sutra!
Every time we drove our daughter to her special school, which took about half an hour, it provided us with a rare enclosed learning environment. As soon as we got in the car, I would say to her, "Let us recite Buddhist scriptures!" I painstakingly taught her to recite the Heart Sutra, word by word. We spent about 2-3 months on just the title, The Prajnaparamita Heart Sutra (般若波罗蜜多心经). Though slow, she was willing to learn and very earnest. I taught her the pronunciation of each word, then the combination of two words, until she could recite them fluently in full.
So, day by day, year by year, from single words and phrases to master the first half, then the second half, to reciting intermittently, and finally reciting fluently without hesitation. This whole process took about 5 years. With each improvement, I would give her a big hug and heaps of praise. Growing up with each encouragement, she would happily ask, "Am I doing well?"
Now, my daughter can proficiently recite the Heart Sutra. Whenever she has free time, she sits alone and recites it. While reciting, she also likes to join her hands together, adding a sense of ceremony. Sometimes, when video-calling her grandparents, she insists on reciting the sutra for them to listen. I tell them, "She is making offerings of the Dharma for you!" The whole family is delighted with her progress.
After learning the Heart Sutra, I taught her to recite the sacred name of Guan Yin Bodhisattva. She quickly learned it well. Feeling accomplished, she almost mentions every day during video calls, "I recited Buddhist scriptures for Grandpa and Grandma (author’s husband’s parents) to listen!" "I recited Buddhist scriptures for Grandpa and Grandma (author’s parents) to listen!" Family members patiently listen to her recitations, mostly reciting the Heart Sutra 1 times followed by 49 times of the sacred name. Bathed in the blessings of Guan Yin Bodhisattva, all four octogenarians in the family are in good health.
(6). A daughter like no other: a ‘Bodhisattva’ beside me
Sometimes, I have this strange feeling that my daughter is not just my daughter but a Bodhisattva incarnate beside me. For example, there are times when I am busy with other tasks, and she will come over and say, "Mom, let us offer incense to the Bodhisattva!" Once, she ran over and said, "Mom, kneel down." I asked, "Kneel for what?" She replied, "To kneel to the Bodhisattva! To offer incense and pay respects to the Bodhisattva."
At times when she feels unwell or has a headache, I reassure her, "Don't worry, everything will be fine. The Bodhisattva will bless you." She would then join her hands together and say, "The Bodhisattva will bless me." Sometimes, when she sees a picture of Guan Yin Bodhisattva on a video I show her, she immediately says, "It is a picture of the Bodhisattva."
Now, my daughter has been seizure-free for almost 5 years. Apart from a recent episode of febrile convulsion due to contracting influenza B, her condition has been overall stable.
Moreover, despite not being able to read and fully understand instructions, she miraculously managed to successfully pass the entrance examination to a special vocational school, to study traditional Chinese pastry making. Previously, we had thought this was an impossible feat.
The above are my genuine reflections and experiences!

Q&A 12. A ghost stretches and the person has a seizure [35]
(The totem reading session at the Buddhist friends' meeting in Hong Kong, China, June 22, 2015)
Inquirer: Grateful to the Bodhisattva, grateful to Master Lu! I would like to ask about my daughter, born in 2007, the Year of the Dog. She has symptoms of autism and epilepsy.
Master: There is an old spirit on her.
Inquirer: Male or female?
Master: Looks like a female, an old lady. She is with your daughter all the time, completely merged with her. That is why her autism is so severe. She likes to shut herself in her room all day and does not want to see anyone. She barely eats and is very picky. I see her neck and cervical spine area is in pain because her head keeps moving like this all day. Do you understand what I am saying?
Inquirer: I do. Master Lu, how many Little Houses should I recite for her karmic creditors? How many fish should I release for her? How long will it take to help the spirit ascend as quickly as possible?
Master: You two did not cultivate properly, or rather, did not even start.
Inquirer: That is true. I only started two months ago.
Master: Did you see? I told you, it is quite troublesome if you do not cultivate. You need to recite Buddhist scriptures for her, and you will end up carrying a lot of her karma. This old lady is not an ordinary ghost; she is very powerful and here to collect a debt. Every time she makes her cramp, the old lady feels especially comfortable. Let me explain it simply, and you will understand. Do you know how people stretch their bodies? When this ghost possesses someone and stretches, the child will convulse and have seizures. Got it now?
Inquirer: Got it.
Master: When the ghost stretches, the person has a seizure. She is always on her. Epilepsy… this kind of illness is very difficult to cure unless you make a great vow. Also, someone in your family must be fully vegetarian on her behalf.
Inquirer: I have already made the vow. Starting today, I will definitely be a lifelong vegetarian!
Master: You just made the vow?
Inquirer: Yes.
Master: No killing.
Inquirer: Understood.
Master: Not only must you be fully vegetarian, but you also need to make a great vow, such as: “When my child recovers, I will do this and that.” Understand?
Inquirer: I understand.
Master: There is killing karma in the mother’s family line.
Inquirer: You are absolutely right! So how many Little Houses should I recite for my child?
Master: 600.
Inquirer: And how many fish should I release over what period of time?
Master: 21,000 fish.
Inquirer: One more question: since I just started, what should I include in my daily recitation?
Master: Heart Sutra 49 times, Great Compassion Mantra 17 times, Eighty-Eight Buddhas Repentance ideally 3 times, and some Amitabha Rebirth Mantras. Understand?
Inquirer: Understood.
Master: You are a good person. Your wife is a bit fierce, so you are kind of afraid of her.
Inquirer: Haha. Thank you, Master!
Master: Let your child get more sun exposure. She is calcium deficient.
Q&A 13. A spirit attached to her, and ancestral killing karma lead to her mental problems [36]
(The totem reading took place at Singapore Dharma Conference on May 10, 2019)
Inquirer: Hello, Master! Please take a look at my daughter. She was born in 2007, the Year of the Dog.
Master: Oh, she has a mental issue.
Inquirer: Yes.
Master: Let me tell you, she was better for a while, but now she is not doing well. There is still a spirit in her.
Inquirer: Yes.
Master: It is in her cervical spine and neck area.
Inquirer: I know.
Master: This spirit is quite troublesome, constantly harassing her. It is a karmic debt from a past life. The number of Little Houses you have offered is still insufficient. Altogether, she has received about 700 Little Houses. How many have you recited?
Inquirer: Around 3,500.
Master: Did you recite them yourself, or…
Inquirer: My husband and I together.
Master: One of you is not reciting properly.
Inquirer: It’s me. I repent.
Master: Your husband is actually repaying a debt to your daughter from a past life. He is reciting well. I can see that. Your daughter tends to act out at night because the spirit possesses her then. It makes her do strange things.
Inquirer: Yes.
Master: Many indecent behaviors.
Inquirer: Yes.
Master: Let me see… You need to recite about 700 more Little Houses, and then there will be a noticeable improvement. Also, you need to liberate 108 soft-shelled turtles for her.
Inquirer: Okay.
Master: This spirit on her is really powerful, darting around constantly.
Inquirer: Yes, she can not stay still.
Master: Exactly, it is moving around inside her body.
Inquirer: Yes.
Master: Grabbing this and touching that constantly.
Inquirer: Yes, nonstop.
Master: Nonstop. It even makes her roll her eyes and twitch her nose.
Inquirer: Yes. Lately, she has a really good appetite and has gained a lot of weight.
Master: Have you seen her make monkey-like movements?
Inquirer: She often stretches.
Master: Stretching, right?
Inquirer: Yes.
Master: That is fine. The spirit is manifesting itself.
Inquirer: Master, please compassionately bless her.
Master: Remember, you need to offer 700 more Little Houses to that spirit.
Inquirer: Okay.
Master: I will talk to it and try to get it to leave your daughter sooner, alright?
Inquirer: Okay. Thank you, Master.
Master: Pray to Guan Yin Bodhisattva for great mercy and compassion. There is a small issue with your home’s altar. On the left side when facing the altar, did you ever make offerings to any immortals or deceased spirits? I see a skinny man there.
Inquirer: No. There is only a Great Compassion Mantra poster hung on the left side.
Master: Hmm. It (spirit) is showing its true form. It is fine. Let it come.
Master to the child: “Do you recognize Master?”
Inquirer: Call Him Master Grandpa Jun Hong Lu.
Master: Call me Grandpa Master… She will not say it.
Child: Master Grandpa Jun Hong Lu.
Master: Trouble, this is the spirit talking, truly.
Inquirer: Every night we read Buddhism in Plain Terms. I point to the cover and tell her, “This is Master Grandpa Jun Hong Lu,” so she knows.
Master: Have you seen Journey to the West? Do you know how Bodhisattvas subdue spirits? I will not remove it right away today. Does she usually do these actions?
Inquirer: Not often.
Master: See that? Master to the child: “Are you willing to leave her body? Will you leave?”
Child: Master Grandpa Jun Hong Lu.
Master: Do you know Grandpa Master? Are you willing to leave her?
Child: Yes.
Fellow Practitioner: Thank you, Master.
Master: That was not her talking, it was the spirit. Didn’t you feel your back get cold? Was it cold? You see, the spirit is on her now. I will ask it to leave temporarily.
Master to the spirit: “How many Little Houses do you want? Will 700 be enough? If you leave her, is 700 okay? Do you agree? Don’t scare them—the front practitioner was so scared her legs were shaking. Come, crawl toward me. Turn around.”
Inquirer: Look, Master Jun Hong Lu is over there.
Master: Look at Master. He is behind you. Do you see the Bodhisattva? Ask her if she sees the Bodhisattva. Is Jun Hong Lu bright?
Inquirer: She nodded and clapped.
Master: Is Him bright? Do you want the Bodhisattva to save you? You scared the practitioners beside you. Come, back up. Turn around. The Bodhisattva is here to see you. Come back quickly. Turn left a bit. Be obedient. Don’t be afraid. The Bodhisattva will bless you. Are you willing to leave her? Okay, get up. I will ask her parents to promise 700 Little Houses, and you leave her for now, alright? Don’t cause more trouble. Will 700 be enough? Leave her for now. Alright, she is getting up. Let her stand. The spirit just left. Call out to Jun Hong Lu , say Grandpa Master. Do you recognize Him?
Inquirer: Say hello to Grandpa Master.
Master: Good. Stand properly. Hold her. She is a bit better now. The spirit has left for the moment. See that? She is better. Stroke her head gently. Now bow. See? She is clapping now. I am telling you, spirits are incredibly harmful. Even after the spirit leaves, she still mimics its actions out of habit. Understand?
Inquirer: I understand.
Master: I am not sure what karmic errors your family made in past lives, maybe killing too many sea creatures or other types of killing?
Inquirer: Yes. My father used to run a restaurant.
Master: Then you must recite the Amitabha Pure Land Rebirth Mantra diligently every day. Little Houses alone are not enough. You must add this mantra. Understood?
Inquirer: Yes. Master, may I ask what specific daily recitations and counts we need to do going forward?
Master: Recite the Amitabha Pure Land Rebirth Mantra 59 times daily. Add Heart Sutra, 49 times a day for her. Eighty-Eight Buddhas Repentance, 5 times for her. Let me check… it will take another 3 years before the spirit leaves completely. After finishing the 700 Little Houses, her condition will significantly improve.
Inquirer: I recite daily for her.
Master: There is no other solution. Doctors can not help her.
Inquirer: Yes.
Master: Only Little Houses will work. See? Now she is normal, completely normal. You must have faith and make strong vows. Is your family now on a full vegetarian diet?
Inquirer: Yes.
Master: All of you, including the child?
Inquirer: Everyone except the child. At school, she still eats meat.
Master: Given her situation, is she in a special needs school?
Inquirer: Yes. The school does not accommodate special diets.
Master: What is the point then? Try this. Can you release a few soft-shelled turtles weekly? I see many turtle spirits on her. Your family likely killed too many in the past.
Inquirer: Okay.
Master: Alright then. It is not easy to meet Master, you know. Say goodbye to Grandpa Master. Oops, she is bowing to Mom. She is happy now. See? She is better now, normal. I have asked the spirit to leave, but her full recovery will still take time. It just left. Some people sleep for a week after a spirit leaves them.
Discussion:
If everyone practiced Guan Yin Citta Dharma Door or possessed the Dharma Eye, as Master Lu does, we would be able to perceive the spiritual influences underlying many physical and mental conditions. For example, we would know intuitively that a teenager’s myasthenia gravis is the karmic result of killing a woman and cutting open her chest in a previous life [15]; her amyotrophic lateral sclerosis stems from having killed a large turtle as a fisherman in a past life [17]; the tremors of a Parkinson’s patient are caused by a spirit attached to the body [18]; a boy’s depression originates from harming others for golden bars in a previous life [20]; a child’s rebellious behavior is linked to the mother’s past abortion [21]; another child limps because his body is possessed by the spirit of his deceased grandfather, who had the same condition when alive [37]; a woman’s kidney failure is due to a dead pig’s spirit residing in her kidney [38]; her chronic idiopathic constipation is caused by spirits of her aborted children [39]; chronic urticaria and eczema arise from having consumed too many aquatic creatures, whose spirits now act on their skins [40, 41]; a baby suffering from glutaric aciduria type I is experiencing the karmic retribution of having killed two large animals in a previous life [42]; his asthma is due to the spirit of a deceased uncle who had great affection for him and now occupies his body [43], and too many to list.
In this paper, various cases reveal the spiritual causes of epilepsy. In Case 1, the daughter developed epilepsy due to the family’s frequent consumption of live aquatic animals and the mother’s past abortion. In Case 3, the father’s extramarital affairs and the karmic offense of killing a pregnant woman and her unborn child led to the daughter’s illness. In Case 4, the girl’s epilepsy was clearly caused by the possession of her body by the spirit of a deceased elderly woman. In Q&A 2, harming others in a past life resulted in epilepsy in this life. In Q&A 3 and 8, fishing and catching crabs caused karmic consequences that manifested as epilepsy in the grandchildren. In Q&A 4 and 5, the mother’s aborted children were attached to their sons, leading to their seizures. In Q&A 6, viewing a deceased person’s memorial plaque triggered epilepsy. In Q&A 7, a spirit that escaped from the underworld caused the condition. In Q&A 11, close-relative marriage led to intellectual disability and epilepsy in the child.
Furthermore, Master Lu clearly explained the pathogenesis of seizures: they occur when a spirit interferes with a person’s body and soul. For instance, a seizure may be triggered when a spirit stretches lazily (Q&A 9) or pulls the person’s soul toward the underworld (Q&A 7). Each seizure is not merely a physical episode. It is a form of spiritual torment inflicted upon the patient (Q&A 3).
Buddhism, in this sense, offers a form of profound knowledge about the spiritual realm and how the spirits affect human health. However, without practicing Buddhism or having the rare gift of the Dharma Eye, as exemplified by enlightened teachers like Master Lu, most of us lack direct access to this insight. As a result, we remain unaware of these spiritual dynamics and struggle with afflictions like epilepsy, relying solely on conventional treatments such as medications, injections, or surgeries, which does not address the root cause as these medical practices can not dispel the spirits away.
Despite the depth of Buddhist teachings, which seamlessly connect theoretical principles to tangible outcomes, some skeptics question their validity simply because they cannot perceive the spiritual realm as Master Lu does. To address this skepticism, consider the following perspectives.
First, even in science, not all phenomena are directly observable by everyone. For instance, few have access to the Hubble Space Telescope, and even fewer can physically interact with it, yet we trust its findings about distant galaxies. Similarly, the inability of ordinary individuals to see the spiritual realm does not negate the insights of those with heightened spiritual perception, like Master Lu.
Second, abundant evidence points to the existence of the spiritual realm. Many people report dreams involving deceased loved ones [37], experiences of spirit oppression (sleep paralysis) [21], and encounters with spiritual entities [14]. Deceased ones in dreams are, in fact, spirits; spirit oppression occurs when a spirit temporarily occupies the body; and those nearing the end of life often see spirits coming to drag them to the underworld. Most psychics, whose bodies are possessed by spirits with supernatural powers, are able to perceive these entities directly. Although the spiritual realm lies beyond ordinary perception, these direct and indirect phenomena offer compelling evidence of its existence.
Despite these observations, much of the scientific community continues to treat the spiritual realm as a matter of personal belief rather than objective reality. However, while many scientists remain constrained by conventional paradigms, disciples of the Guan Yin Citta Dharma Door have reported extraordinary healing outcomes. They have successfully resolved conditions such as neurological disorders [14–19], mental illnesses [20–23], skin diseases [40, 41], late-stage cancers [44], asthma [45], and epilepsy (Case 1–4, Q&A 11), many of which remain incurable by modern medicine. Remarkably, these recoveries have occurred often by individuals without any formal medical training.
This clearly demonstrates that Buddhism is, at its core, a profound body of wisdom, a knowledge that everyone should strive to understand. The objective existence of the spiritual world and the efficacy of the Guan Yin Citta Dharma Door are not diminished by scientific skepticism. Even without formal medical training, those who sincerely study and apply this wisdom continue to experience its transformative benefits.
In this light, medical defining epilepsy merely as a "neurological disorder" amounts to describing its symptoms rather than uncovering its root cause. A more accurate understanding is that “epilepsy is fundamentally a spirit disease with neurological disturbances as its primary outward manifestation.”
Currently, the scientific community remains focused on the material dimension of epilepsy, exploring factors such as genetic mutations, brain injuries, infections, and developmental abnormalities. However, none of these address the true root cause of epilepsy. As a result, these approaches cannot ultimately lead to a complete and permanent cure.
Take genetic mutations as an example. According to the China Association Against Epilepsy (CAAE), if both parents have epilepsy, their children face up to an 80% likelihood of developing the condition, an inheritance rate that appears nearly inescapable [46]. In Case 2, epilepsy also exhibits clear hereditary patterns: J125’s cousin and her cousin’s daughter both succumbed to epileptic seizures, and J125’s son also had epilepsy. These cases strongly suggest a genetic component in epilepsy’s occurrence.
However, J125’s son was completely cured of epilepsy through her Dharma practice, without any genetic therapy. This outcome challenges the assumption that epilepsy is genetically determined, as Dharma practice involves spirit ascension rather than genetic modification.
The successful recovery in Case 2 prompts a reevaluation of the presumed "genetic nature" of epilepsy. What we perceive as genetic traits may merely be surface-level manifestations. Its deeper cause is the influence of spiritual factors. By applying the spiritual framework of the Guan Yin Citta Dharma Door, the so-called hereditary patterns of epilepsy become more comprehensible.
First, being born into a family affected by epilepsy may reflect shared collective karma (共业) from past lives, resulting in similar forms of karmic retribution. Second, spirits can transfer between individuals, especially within families, making members susceptible to the same spiritual influences. When a spirit attaches to a family member, it may manifest through physical symptoms such as epilepsy. As for changes in DNA sequences, this is not difficult to understand, given that spirits possess immense power to harm humans. Thousands of rare and intractable diseases are, in fact, believed to be caused by their presence [10]. In short, these so-called genetic mutations are not the root cause, but rather the consequences of underlying spiritual disturbances.
The value of genetic research in epilepsy may lie more in diagnosis [47] than in treatment or long-term control [48]. Therefore, while scientists continue to decode the genome, the practical implications of their findings may remain limited in terms of curing or managing the condition effectively.
With regard to the roles of brain injuries, infections, and similar factors in epilepsy, these may function more as triggers for karmic eruption, conditions that allow a spirit to take possession of the body, rather than as the true causes of the disease. This perspective aligns with earlier discussions suggesting that external factors, such as smoking in lung cancer [10], or pollen in eczema [40] and asthma [43], act as catalysts that activate underlying spiritual or karmic causes, rather than serving as the root source of the illness.
There are laws in heaven, laws in the underworld, and laws in the human world [10]. Violating the laws of the human world results in punishment and so does violating the laws of the underworld and the heavenly realm. If a spirit escapes the underworld and reincarnates before their designated time, this constitutes a violation of the laws of the underworld and will lead to punishment (Q&A 7).
We have previously reported such cases. For example, a child born with the genetic disorder Glutaric Aciduria Type I was an instance of a spirit that escaped from the underworld and was reborn before its time [42]. In another case, a child with Down syndrome was born to parents who had not planned to conceive. The child was in fact an escaped spirit who seized the opportunity to reincarnate and was born with a complex congenital disorder [49].
While such incidents are the result of spirits violating the rules of the underworld, parents also bear responsibility. Aside from procreation, couples must approach sexual conduct with seriousness and discipline. Indulgent or reckless behavior not only opens the door for such wandering spirits to reincarnate but may also lead to other illnesses, such as kidney failure [38].
The human realm is not a place for indulgence and enjoyment. It is a place to repay karmic debts and eliminate negative karma. Only after repaying these debts can one elevate spiritually and ultimately break free from the cycle of rebirth. Ending the cycle of reincarnation not only liberates one from the suffering of various diseases in this world but also from the pain of birth, aging, sickness, and death [10].
We are truly fortunate to have encountered Buddhism in this lifetime and to be able to apply the wisdom of the Guan Yin Citta Dharma Door to heal epilepsy, an illness considered incurable by modern medicine. This is a rare and precious opportunity that we should deeply cherish.
Conclusion:
Despite significant advances in the medical understanding and treatment of epilepsy, many patients continue to suffer from uncontrolled seizures, and in nearly half of all cases, the underlying cause remains unidentified.
This study presents a new framework grounded in the teachings of Master Lu and the Guan Yin Citta Dharma Door, which interprets epilepsy as a spiritual illness rooted in karmic debt and spirit possession. Through analysis of 13 Dharma dialogues and four confirmed recovery cases, we show that Buddhist practices such as making vows, reciting Buddhist scriptures, life liberation, repentance, and studying Buddhism in Plain Terms can lead to full recovery from epilepsy.
These findings suggest that spiritual causation and resolution may play a critical role in epilepsy. This perspective offers a new path that addresses epilepsy at its karmic and spiritual root.
