Abstract

Juses son of Mary said in the bible "By their fruits you will know them” (Matt. 7: 20, New King James Version). Everybody knows Dolly the sheep. What happened with that goat? Each of us remembers the outcry on television and the press, and some of us studied about it in the biology curriculum. The fuss came out and warned that the cloning will bring out the Antichrist. Some claimed that Hitler, Hulagu, and others terrible individuals will be cloned and return their clones to live. Others spoke about the legal effects in cloning people then their copies will commit crimes and there was a fear that the fingerprints of the clones will match with the original. Many have warned against "renting wombs" and others warned against "organ trafficking" of these copies. Again, what is the fruit of cloning after nearly 30 years have passed? What are the results?

Cloning is applied before the successfual birth of Dolly the sheep. Cloning have been used in agriculture and livestock for improvement purposes. Also, the technique of fertilization in the laboratory (IFV) was present and was used before the scientific discovery of Dolly. Dr. Sinot Halim Doss (1999) wrote in his book (Cloning Human: Life or Dead). The cloning of the bodies, such as the pharaonic mummies, is not possible because there is no DNA that was able to take through the Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR), and they tried in various ways and did not succeed. The Thymine base in the DNA decompose after 6 hours of death (Doss, 1999). With regard to fingerprints, Dr. Halim writes that fingerprints also never match even between copies. Genetic engineering and cloning leads to the genetic selection system, which leads to a racism and supremacy based on genetic purity that is difficult to treat as it appeared in the American movie Gattaca (1997).

All cloning experiments have been stopped in America, Britain and the European Union. As for the organ trafficing, the patient has to wait 20 years for his copy to grow and be ready to transfer the organ as a replacement. Also, in crimes there will be what is known as a “genetic liability”, such as financial liability, so genes are blamed for any defects in the person and their advantages are attributed to them. But it has become clear to us that cloning destroys the genetic material and makes it weak, which makes the copies age quickly and makes the copies more susceptible to diseases. Telomeres control the lifespan of the cell, and it has recently been discovered how to increase lifespan by lengthening telomeres, but if a person has a car accident or gets sick, extending lifespan or not will be of no use.

Dolly's life ended after 6 years of struggling with rheumatism and premature aging, where her life was ended by euthanasia. Dolly was just an old, "crippled" sheep suffering from joint diseases, so why all the fuss that ended in the greatest failure in history? If a human child was cloned, his hair would turn gray by the age of twenty and suffer from countless diseases.

Have we learned our lesson? Why all this fuss over experiments that didn't work? We always have to wait to see the results of any discovery or invention to be tested in reality and leave the exaggerations.
